The Royal Proclamation is issued. This document will serve as the de facto constitution of Quebec until 1774 when the Quebec Act is passed.
1836
Henri-Elzéar Taschereau, who will become Chief Justice of Canada in 1902, is born in Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce, Lower Canada.
1878
The Honourable Sir Henri-Elzéar Taschereau is appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada as a puisne judge. During his tenor as puisne judge, Justice Taschereau was a part-time professor at the University of Ottawa.
1999
Adrienne Clarkson is sworn in as Canada's 26th Governor General. She is the first immigrant to hold this office.
