The Honourable Emmett Matthew Hall is appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada as a puisne judge. Prior to this appointment, Justice Hall was chairman of the Royal Commission on Health Services that recommended the creation of a universal health care system. Justice Hall is therefore known as the "father" of Canadian medicare.
