The Honourable Robert Taschereau is appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada as a puisne judge, filling the vacancy created by the death of his former law partner, Lawrence Cannon. While puisne judge at the Supreme Court, Justice Taschereau would co-chair the Royal Commission on Spying Activities in Canada, a commission put in place following the "Gouzenko Affair".
