Non-Aboriginal Women over the age of 21 gain the right to vote in federal elections.

The Honourable John Sopinka is appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada as a puisne judge. He is the first judge not to be a judge at a lower court prior to being appointed to the Supreme Court.
