The Vimy Ridge Memorial is unveiled in France. This memorial, designed by Canadian sculptor and architect Walter Allward, commemorates the Easter Monday attack that killed 3598 Canadian soldiers and injured 7004. Prior to his work on the Vimy Ridge Memorial, Mr. Allward sculpted the statues Ivstitia (Justice) and Veritas (Truth) that adorn the steps of the Supreme Court of Canada.
1970
Former Chief Justice Robert Taschereau dies at the age of 73, three years after his retirement from the Court.
