Chief Justice Sir William Johnstone Ritchie dies in office at the age of 58.

The Honourable Sir Louis Henry Davies is appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada as a puisne judge. Justice Davies was the first judge appointed from the province of Prince Edward Island.
