The Honourable Lyman Poore Duff is appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada as a puisne judge. Justice Duff will retire January 7, 1944 as the longest serving Supreme Court judge in Canadian history.
2005
Michaëlle Jean is sworn in as Canada's 27th Governor General. Her Excellency is the first black woman to hold this office.
