The Honourable Mr. Justice Henry Hague Davis
Henry Hague Davis was born in Brockville, Ontario, on September 10, 1885. He was the son of William Henry Davis and Eliza Dowsley. He studied at the University of Toronto, obtaining a B.A. in 1907, an M.A. in 1909 and an LL.B. in 1911. Called to the bar in 1911, he joined the law firm of Kilmer, McAndrew & Irving in Toronto, where he practised for 22 years. He was appointed to the Ontario Court of Appeal in 1933 and to the Supreme Court of Canada on January 31, 1935. Maintaining his involvement with the Canadian Bar Association, he became its president in 1935. In 1938 he chaired the Royal Commission on the Bren Machine Gun Contract. He served on the Supreme Court for nine years. Justice Davis died on June 30, 1944, at the age of 58.
