Description of the Virtual Tour
Judges’ Conference Room
This is a 360-degree virtual tour. The view is from the middle of the room.
The style of this room is very similar to that of the Judges’ Reading Room.
Aside from the white ceiling, all the surfaces are made of light-coloured wood, which lends an undeniable warmth to this room where the judges debate questions of the greatest importance. The walls are composed of square panels of quarter-sawn oak, which form a rectilinear grid. All around the room, built-in bookcases contain the oldest and rarest books in the collection of the Supreme Court. To the right, there is a marble fireplace over which the Coat of Arms of Canada is mounted. The coats of arms of the provinces and territories can be seen high on the walls around the room. At the back, three big windows let daylight into the room.
The furniture and the red rugs divide the room into two areas. On one side is a round oak table surrounded by nine chairs where the judges sit when deliberating. On the other side, soft red armchairs and some wooden tables form a small sitting area. At each of the four corners of the room, an antique red leather armchair can be seen.
