Judicial exchange with the United Kingdom Supreme Court

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court of Canada was pleased to welcome a delegation of judges from the United Kingdom Supreme Court to Ottawa for a judicial exchange.

The delegation from the Supreme Court of Canada was led by the Right Honourable Richard Wagner, P. C., Chief Justice of Canada and comprised Justices Andromache Karakatsanis, Suzanne Côté and Mahmud Jamal. The delegation from the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom consisted of Lord Robert Reed, President of the Supreme Court, Lord David Lloyd-Jones, Lady Vivien Rose and Lady Ingrid Simler.

Over the course of the exchange, the judges discussed important topics such as public communications and outreach, the rule of law and judicial independence, and development in administrative law and the interpretation of statutes. The UK judges also sat down with Supreme Court of Canada law clerks and staff for a fireside chat.
